TikTok, an application for short video sharing, was the most downloaded app on AppStore around the world in the first quarter 2019. A report from analytics firm Sensor Tower shows that TikTok was downloaded 33 million times. YouTube and Instagram followed after with about 30 million installs.
On Google Play, the Chinese app was downloaded 150 million times and took the third place. In Q1 2019, it was outranked by WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, which saw 199 million and 180 million installs respectively.
According to analysts, it was the best first quarter for TikTok in terms of audience growth: the total number of downloads exceeded 180 million. Compared to Jan-Mar 2018, downloads around the world grew by 70%. TikTok’s revenue from in-app purchases amounted to $18.9 million that is 3.2 times more than in 2018.
The app is gaining popularity on the Russian market as well. It was previously reported that users spend an average of 13 minutes a day on TikTok. In these terms, TikTok was outranked by four apps: VKontakte, Instagram, Youtube, and WatsApp. Brands are using social networks to engage with young audience. For example, Coca Cola has launched its own flash mob on TikTok, and Sberbank posts entertaining content to promote its banking services.
