The challenging year of 2020 provided equally difficult predictions: because of the pandemic, the future was, to put it mildly, “unclear.” But in 2021, gambling market players are mostly delivering optimistic news about their business! Not only this year got players back to the betting shops and casinos, but also showed huge profits and set several records.
In the U.S., players rushed into casinos
In the second quarter of 2021, U.S. gambling establishments, as reported by the American Gaming Association, received an astounding profit of $13.6 billion. That’s a quarter more than in the same time period in 2019.
- The online gambling market in the United States is one of the most sophisticated and largest in the world. For the last 10 years, it has been actively developing and has excellent prospects. How is the U.S. gambling market arranged and how to make money online?
The year 2021 experienced a boom of casino gambling, showing profit figures exceeding those for 2019 in 19 of the 25 states in America where gambling activity is allowed. At the same time, quarantine restrictions on the number of visitors were lifted only recently – at the beginning of summer. Players are trying to catch up for 2020 – in the first six months of gambling activity, casinos and betting shops made almost $25 billion in profits, with the entire 2020 figure reaching only $30 billion.
However, forecasters are cautiously optimistic, as it is unclear whether 2021 will beat the figures of 2019 ($43.6 billion), as the number of Coronavirus patients is increasing again and everyone expects the introduction of a Lockdown.
Portuguese bookmakers’ revenues “jumped” by 224.5%
Portugal is also showing surprising figures – in the second quarter of 2021, online betting brought almost 82% more revenue than during the same period in 2020 – 125 against 68.7 million euros. Revenue from sports betting jumped by 224.5% – affected by the major European football championship, which means a lot to the Portuguese people. However, the total income for the second quarter is still a bit lower than the first – 128,3 million euros. But the gap in the share of sports betting is very significant – 20,8 million euros in the first quarter of 2021 and 67,5 million euros in the second. As you might expect, football has become the most popular betting object: it has 77,5% of sports betting in Q2. Second place went to tennis, and basketball got the bronze.
According to iGaming Business, virtual casinos also showed an increase of 20%, the slots are in the priority, then Roulette and Blackjack.
Online gambling in Italy: steadily, monthly, increasingly up
Italy is another European country that has shown growth in online gambling. However, as noted by the experts of the Statista Research Department research group, it has been growing since 2019, but the gross income especially soared in 2020. Profit reached 110 million euros in May and, apart from a slight drop in June, grew steadily each month, peaking in April 2021 at 161 million euros. The summer calmed the players’ fervor a bit, with online platforms earning €134 million in June.
In contrast to the success of Italian online gambling in general is the falling interest in virtual poker, which reached its peak in April 2020 and since then has shown a gradual revenue decline.
Gambling in Kazakhstan: profit is breaking records
Statistics for 2020 shows extraordinary profits of gambling operators in Kazakhstan: broken record in 2014, when the gross revenue amounted to 24.6 billion tenge.
- Ukraine has also summed up the first results of legalization of gambling business: the first billion hryvnia in the budget of the country. How to make the most of the Ukrainian gambling market?
According to Casino News, the total revenue of the gambling business reached 78.6 billion tenge (that is 2.4 million dollars), which is six times more than in 2019. The last quarter of 2020 brought the most profit – 59.3 billion tenge.
First place among Kazakh cities was taken by Almaty with a gross profit of 57.2 billion (80 times the 2019 figure), while the capital city of Nursultan took only third place, collecting 4.5 billion tenge.
It is unknown how long such rapid growth will last: the opening of land-based casinos and the return of “live” sports may slightly distract players from betting and playing online. So, while the gambling business is building on the momentum – choose high-converting offers, drive traffic and make money!
